COMPETENT PERSON

All employers must appoint someone as their Competent Person for health and safety as this is a regulatory requirement of the law.

Ideally your organization will have someone who is suitable an sufficiently qualified to take this task on, however

Safety Limits could be your Competent Person, and will make sure that you are compliant with the law and legislation at all times, thus saving you the cost of employing someone to be your Competent Person.

What a Competent Person should be undertaking in their role:

  • Initial workplace assessment
  • Write and update Health and Safety policies and procedures to include MAPP (Major Accident Prevention Policy)
  • Write and update Risk Assessments
  • Health & Safety Training which needs to be carried out
  • Remedial Action Plan produced
  • Accident Investigation and Reporting to Enforcing Authorities
  • Health & Safety Audit at least once a year, as a minimum
  • Review every year of procedures and risk assessments
  • To produce Health and Safety report for Company Management Report
  • Liaison with Enforcing Authorities.

All of this will give you a safer workplace in which to work in, however if Safety Limits Ltd was to be your Competent Person you would also have Advice on hand all the time.
